In this session, Lucy Sanders will discuss, from her own front row seat as a senior technologist, how IT has evolved in the last several decades and how women's roles as technical innovators have lagged behind. U.S. businesses are at a cross-roads - based on quantifiable measures, women's lack of involvement in IT is hurting our competitiveness and impacting our revenues.
A group of concerned individuals, companies and organizations are unifying around their concerns and forming the National Center for Women and Information Technology, headquartered at the University of Colorado, Boulder. Through dialog with session participants, possibilities for RMIMA involvement with the National Center will be explored.
Lucy Sanders - A recipient of the Bell Labs Fellow Award, Ms. Sanders retired as a CTO and Vice President of R&D at AT&T Bell Labs, Lucent Bell Labs and Avaya Labs. She joined the University of Colorado's ATLAS (Alliance for Technology, Learning and Society) Institute, whose broad mission includes bridging information technology with the arts, humanities, and social sciences. In addition to her role as the Executive in Residence
for ATLAS, Lucy serves on a number of non-profit boards, as well as on the boards of several high-tech companies. She also holds 4 patents in the telecommunications area. Ms. Sanders recently received the Distinguished Engineering Alumni Award from the College of Engineering at the University of Colorado at Boulder.
Sandy Sharma is a Vice President of Technology and Strategy for Immedient. With over 13 years of business and technology consulting in a senior executive position, Mr. Sharma has served as a senior consultant, business strategist and architect for large organizations.

Mr. VanDerSchouw served as Chief Technology Officer for the countries 3rd largest interactive agency where he worked with firms such as Amazon.com, HotMail, Sun Microsystems, and ESPN.com. Prior to that he was an executive with Wells Fargo & Company. His work has appeared in publications such as Forbes Magazine, Interactive Week, Virtual Finance, the LA Times, the San Francisco Chronicle, and the San Jose Mercury News. He has lectured at the Kellogg School, the Krannert School, the Price School and many other colleges and universities throughout the United States. He is an active member of the American Society for Training and Development and the National Speakers Association. Mr. VanDerSchouw is listed in the National Register Who’s Who Directory for professionals and executives.
