Greetings!
During this magical season of the year we often get overwhelmed and sucked into a whirlpool of holiday business. It is easy to get wrapped up in all the chaos that no one else, but we ourselves, create. I very much encourage you to slow down and take some time to reflect back on the last year and start planning for the New Year. What are the things that you planned to achieve a year ago, but have not seen any progress with? Maybe, you achieved something that no one else did before and now you are ready for the next challenge. Or, maybe you are extremely happy where you are right now. Look back and analyze how got you here. This is a great time of the year to reflect on your accomplishments and create an action plan for next year. Volunteering is always a good holiday present that achieves both giving and receiving. December is a very special month for RMIMA. This is the month that, by tradition, we hold our Annual Employment Panel. This year, we have assembled a distinguished panel from industry, education, and government to discuss the state of IT employment in Colorado. I hope that you will take this opportunity to give yourself an early holiday present by treating yourself to a nice meal and information that can change your career. You can not only learn about the latest trends in IT employment, but also meet a group of hiring experts in person. Warm Holiday Wishes!

Annual Employment Panel Each December we pull together a panel from industry, education, and consulting to look at the state of IT employment in Colorado. In the late 1990’s, this panel predicted a shortage of mainframe programmers before it showed up in our recruiting efforts. Several years ago, we saw an employer’s market starting where we could recruit talented IT people with higher skills and lower wages. Today, things are changing in Colorado and wages are going up as organizations grow their IT staffs. Are we in equilibrium or will there be shortages? What will happen to IT wages in 2007? What skills are in high demand, and what skills are not? Agenda

Drawing for RMIMA Members Only Large, ambitious strategic projects are rife with political issues. As part of our Human Performance Optimization™ practice, CONNECT: The Knowledge Network invites you to a powerful one and a half day event that will change the way you view these issues and improve your ability to manage, sponsor, be a customer of, or simply work on, large, cross-organizational projects. Power, Politics & Partnership is a dynamic, yawn-free leadership development program. This in-house workshop focuses on the worlds of Tops, Middles, Bottoms and Customers during turbulent times. It gets to the heart of partnership in organization life - what makes partnership so critical, what gets in the way of it developing, and what the role of leaders is in making it happen. The centerpiece of the workshop is an organization exercise in which participants are dropped into roles as top executives, middle managers, workers and customers interacting in a chaotic, fast-paced environment. This visceral approach enables the learning to get beyond the head level to where it really hits home and sticks. Peer discussion reinforces the students’ learning. For more information on this workshop, go to: http://www.connectknowledge.com/news/events/ppp070118.html In this drawing, only one (1) person will be chosen to attend the CONNECT workshop held on January 18 - 19, 2007.

Company Spotlight - The Uprime Group, Inc. The Uptime Group, Inc, a Denver-based IT and VoIP consultancy, opened its doors in early 2001 during what proved to be the worst information technology economy in history. Despite this challenge, during its nearly six years in business, the company has not only survived – it has thrived. With more than ten-fold growth in the previous three years, the company that began as a Linux consulting shop, has added the full suite of Microsoft solutions, as well as VoIP to its comprehensive list of capabilities. The company focuses on technology solutions design, installation and maintenance for organizations with 20 to 60 employees in the metro area, and has other services that make it truly a one-stop-technology-shop for its customers, such as anti-virus/anti-spam service, automated Internet backups and archived email. According to President Patty Laushman, “The owners and managers of small organizations simply do not have time to wrestle with technology issues and need it to ‘just work.’ We function as their outsourced IT department helping them leverage their technology investments and do more with less.” For job or more information please do not hesitate to contact The Uptime Group.
