You might be thinking its really hard to maximize personal performance... Well think again!  And think differently.  The people on your work team are complex beings and personal motivation is driven from many directions.

You got your technology job because of your high IQ, talents, skills and experiences.  To keep your job you need to demonstrate some EQ, (Emotional Quotient or Emotional Intelligence).  This is not about feel good behavior or group hugs.  It is about working with people in more effective ways than simply telling them what to do and expecting them to do it.  Technology mangers are rarely hired for their relationship skills, but that is what leadership is about, and these skills are essential for success.

Diane Watkins creates professional development programs for Colorado educators through the Library of Congress' Teaching with Primary Sources (TPS) program. She is instrumental in developing their online course content and storing it in an XML format for multiple delivery modes. Diane has given presentations about Web 2.0 tools at the Denver Newspaper Agency's Newspapers in Education Teacher Institute, Metropolitan State College of Denver's Faculty Development Conference, and TPS Librarian Days.

Diane recently completed the Harvard course, "Teaching for Understanding" in preparation for the development of a higher level course that will be offered through TPS in spring 2009. She also completed Emotional Intelligence Certification Training through the Six Seconds EQ Network. Six Seconds is a global, nonprofit organization that helps people learn emotional intelligence skills to promote a more positive and caring environment in organizations, schools, families, and communities.
