Green Information Technology

Jon Chorley
vice president of product strategy
for Oracle’s Sustainability and Supply Chain Management applications

“Green” or Sustainability is rapidly becoming part of mainstream business practices – driven by a combination of consumer pressures, regulation and enlightened self-interest. This adds additional dimensions against which organizations must be measured and businesses must compete. Information Technology has a critical part to play in enabling this evolution. While the escalating energy consumption of IT data centers are often thought of as contributing to environmental issues, the reality is that there are ways for this trend to be reversed, and for IT to deliver applications that create far larger quantum shifts in a company’s environmental position. This presentation will discuss these opportunities using a framework of Eco-Efficiency, Eco-Transparency and Eco-Innovation to illustrate how a business can use Information Technology to become an Eco-Enterprise.

Jon Chorley is vice president of product strategy for Oracle’s Sustainability and Supply Chain Management applications, leading the team responsible for driving the business requirements and product roadmaps for these application areas. Oracle’s sustainability solutions include technology, middleware and business applications which increase compliance, efficiency and business advantage in today’s eco-conscious environment. Oracle SCM applications include product lifecycle management, transportation and logistics, manufacturing, asset lifecycle management, planning and order fulfillment. Mr. Chorley has been with Oracle for the past 12 years and prior to that in a variety of roles in the IT industry including as CIO, principal of a consulting organization and head of product development.
