Distributing a project scope between in-country and offshore software development teams is now the norm for many industries. Managing software development projects with geographically and culturally diverse teams presents unique challenges and benefits. Coordinating these projects requires intensive communication and coordination. In this presentation, we will discuss some of the challenges and present methods to maximize the advantages of a multicultural team.  We will discuss:

  • Time zones – who works late, who wakes up early
  • Cultural Variances – timeliness, conflict resolution, hierarchy
  • Avoiding stereotypes - guidelines not guarantees
  • Language fluency – promoting concise and open communication
  • Definition of successful multicultural team
