Today, technology has become one of the most, if not the most critical business enabler. Companies like Apple, Facebook and Twitter are revolutionizing how we interact as a society, and actually establishing new social norms. Around us we see how technology is significantly influencing politics, public policy, and even the direction of nations.

Yet at the same time, many IT professionals struggle for advancement in their careers, and find themselves passed over for key leadership opportunities. Despite significant technical proficiency and contribution, many technologists find themselves stymied within the larger organization. Entire IT department find themselves relegated to “back-office” functions, and being view as pure commodities where cost reduction is the only end-game – i.e. the very first target when the inevitable budget cuts come.

In this workshop we will discuss the critical career planning and capability development that is necessary for IT professionals to succeed, advance, and become significant influencers in the larger organizations. Key topics will include:

  • Strategic Career Planning for IT Professionals
  • Capability Development for IT Professionals to Succeed in the Larger Organization
  • Career Visioning Beyond Ups and Downs in the Economy
  • Going Beyond “Business Alignment” and into Strategic Leadership
